English-Speaking Dietitian in Budapest’s 13th District
Consultation hours:
Monday: 07:00–15:00
Wednesday: 07:00–15:00
Friday: 07:00–15:00
The aim of the dietetic consultation is to find evidence-based, sustainable solutions that are tailored to your individual health needs, lifestyle and eating habits.
You do not need to follow every new diet trend or feel overwhelmed by conflicting nutrition advice.
At Visegrádi40, we help you find a nutritional approach that suits your health, goals and everyday life — and that you can maintain in the long term.
Dietetic counselling is not about lists of forbidden foods or extreme diets. Its purpose is to provide clear, evidence-based and practical guidance on what to eat, how to prepare it and how to structure your meals.
We welcome both adults and children.
Consultations are available both in person at our Budapest clinic and online in English.
How can a dietitian help?
You do not need to have a diagnosed medical condition to benefit from consulting a dietitian. Professional dietary guidance can also support lifestyle changes, health maintenance, weight management or simply the development of a more balanced way of eating.
Lifestyle changes and healthy eating
If you would like to improve your eating habits but are not looking for yet another short-term diet, our dietitian can help you develop a sustainable approach that fits into your everyday life.
You can receive support with:
-
developing healthier eating habits,
-
achieving a healthier body composition,
-
reaching weight-loss or weight-gain goals,
-
making more informed food choices,
-
improving your practical cooking and food preparation skills,
-
identifying and correcting common nutrition misconceptions.
Carbohydrate metabolism and personalised dietary guidance
If you have insulin resistance, prediabetes or diabetes, it is especially important that your diet is based on your individual health and lifestyle rather than on general advice found online.
During the consultation, we will discuss:
-
your current eating habits,
-
the timing and composition of your meals,
-
choosing suitable sources of carbohydrates,
-
appropriate portion sizes,
-
your laboratory results and medical recommendations,
-
and how to make dietary changes sustainable in everyday life.
Dietetic counselling complements medical assessment and treatment; it does not replace them.
Food allergies and special diets
If you have a diagnosed food allergy or another condition requiring a special diet, it is important to understand not only which foods need to be excluded.
It is equally important that, despite the necessary restrictions, your diet remains varied, nutritionally adequate and practical in everyday life.
A dietitian can help you with:
-
understanding food labels,
-
choosing suitable alternative ingredients,
-
planning your shopping and meal preparation,
-
avoiding unnecessary dietary restrictions,
-
finding solutions that can be adapted to family meals.
Paediatric dietetics, picky eating and introducing solid foods
A child’s diet is not simply a smaller version of an adult’s diet.
Dietetic support may be helpful with:
-
introducing solid foods,
-
managing picky eating,
-
planning a suitable diet for a child with a food allergy,
-
meeting special dietary requirements,
-
developing healthy eating habits,
-
or assessing whether your child’s diet is sufficiently varied.
The aim is not to create more rules around mealtimes, but to establish a safer, calmer and more sustainable approach to eating.
Sports nutrition
Appropriate nutrition is an important part of preparation for both recreational and competitive athletes.
During the dietetic consultation, recommendations are tailored to your chosen sport, the timing and intensity of your training, your individual goals and your daily routine.
Dietetic support may help you with:
-
ensuring an appropriate energy and nutrient intake,
-
planning what to eat before and after training,
-
supporting your body-composition goals,
-
reviewing your fluid intake,
-
assessing whether dietary supplements are appropriate or necessary.
Dietetic support for medical conditions
After receiving a new diagnosis, one of the first questions is often:
“What can I eat from now on?”
Based on your medical diagnosis and treatment plan, a dietitian can translate dietary recommendations into clear and practical guidance.
Dietetic support is available for conditions including:
-
disorders affecting carbohydrate metabolism,
-
food allergies,
-
certain digestive symptoms,
-
cancer,
-
living with a stoma.
For condition-specific dietetic counselling, please bring your latest relevant medical records and test results with you.
You do not need to have a medical condition to see a dietitian
Many people only consult a dietitian when a laboratory result or diagnosis means that they have to change their diet.
However, a dietetic consultation can also be helpful if you:
-
would like to eat more healthily but do not know where to begin;
-
want to lose weight or change your body composition;
-
feel overwhelmed by conflicting nutrition advice;
-
are unsure whether you really need to exclude certain foods from your diet;
-
would like to make more informed choices when planning your own or your family’s meals;
-
have questions about your child’s diet;
-
exercise regularly and would like to adapt your nutrition to your training.
The aim is not to create a “perfect diet”, but to develop eating habits that work in your everyday life.
What happens during a dietetic consultation?
Initial dietetic consultation (50 minutes)
The purpose of your first appointment is to give our dietitian a clear understanding of your current diet, lifestyle, health and goals.
The initial consultation includes:
-
a detailed assessment of your dietary history,
-
a review of your health and any available medical records,
-
body composition measurement and evaluation of the results,
-
identifying any questions or difficulties related to eating,
-
agreeing on your primary and secondary goals,
-
discussing the first practical dietary recommendations.
You will not receive a generic “diet” intended for everyone. Our recommendations will be based on your individual circumstances.

analysis of your food diary,
-
body composition measurement,
-
monitoring your results and progress,
-
reviewing new laboratory results and medical records,
-
discussing your experiences and questions,
-
fine-tuning your dietary recommendations,
-
setting new milestones.
Duration: 40 minutes
Online Dietitian Consultations in English
If you would like to consult a dietitian in English but cannot attend our Budapest clinic in person, you can choose an online video consultation.
During the appointment, we discuss your current eating habits, lifestyle, health history and individual goals. Based on your medical documents, laboratory results and food diary, our dietitian provides personalised, practical recommendations that can be incorporated into your everyday life.
An online consultation may be particularly convenient if:
-
you live outside Budapest;
-
you would prefer to speak with a dietitian in English from the comfort of your home;
-
you travel frequently or spend part of your time outside Budapest;
-
you would like to continue your follow-up consultations while you are away;
-
travelling to the clinic would be difficult or unnecessarily time-consuming.
Both initial and follow-up dietetic consultations are available online. Relevant laboratory results, medical reports and a food diary, if available, can be provided before the appointment.
Please note that body composition measurement is only available during in-person consultations at our clinic.

What should you bring to your first consultation?
Where available, please bring any medical documents that may be relevant to the reason for your dietetic consultation.
These may include:
-
recent laboratory results,
-
an outpatient medical report or specialist’s opinion,
-
previous examination results,
-
a list of medications you take regularly,
-
a list of vitamins and dietary supplements you use.
If you have previously kept a food diary, it is also helpful to bring it with you.
Body composition measurement: we look beyond body weight
People with the same body weight can have very different body compositions.
For this reason, we do not focus solely on the number shown on the scales during a dietetic consultation. Body composition measurement provides a more accurate picture of your starting point. At follow-up appointments, it also allows us to monitor changes in your body composition as well as your weight.
The results are interpreted by our dietitian as part of the overall assessment.
You can also book a body composition measurement and professional evaluation as a standalone service.
Why consult a dietitian?
“Carbohydrates are bad for you.”
“You should not eat after 6 pm.”
“Everyone should avoid gluten.”
“This particular food causes inflammation.”
“Everyone should lose weight on this diet.”
Nutrition is an area in which conflicting claims, fad diets and oversimplified advice are especially common.
The purpose of dietetic counselling is not to create yet another set of restrictions.
Drawing on evidence-based professional knowledge and clinical guidelines, a dietitian works with you to develop dietary changes that suit your health, goals and individual circumstances.
At Visegrádi40, our patients are supported by a qualified dietitian.
Frequently asked questions about dietetic counselling
How long does the initial dietetic consultation take?
The initial consultation lasts 50 minutes. During the appointment, we take a detailed dietary history, review your health and any available medical documents, and identify the main goals of the dietary changes.
How long does a follow-up consultation take?
A follow-up dietetic consultation lasts 40 minutes. During the appointment, we review your experiences, analyse your food diary if necessary, monitor changes in your body composition and agree on the next steps.
Do I need to bring laboratory test results?
If you have recent laboratory results or other medical documents related to your current health, it is helpful to bring them with you. However, you do not need to arrange laboratory tests on your own initiative solely for the dietetic consultation.
What should I bring with me?
Please bring any relevant laboratory results, outpatient medical reports and specialist opinions, together with a list of the medications, vitamins and dietary supplements you take regularly.
Can I bring my child to see the dietitian?
Yes. Our dietitian welcomes both adults and children. For children, dietetic support is available for introducing solid foods, picky eating, food allergies and developing healthy eating habits, among other concerns.
Can dietetic counselling also benefit healthy people?
Yes. You do not need to have a medical condition to consult a dietitian. Support is also available for lifestyle changes, weight or body-composition goals, sports nutrition, developing healthier eating habits and resolving uncertainties about nutrition.
Will I receive a personalised diet plan?
Dietetic counselling is always based on your individual health, eating habits, lifestyle and goals. Following the initial consultation, the dietitian will determine the most appropriate format and level of detail for your dietary recommendations.
How many dietetic consultations will I need?
This varies from person to person. One or a small number of appointments may be sufficient for a straightforward question. When making broader lifestyle changes or adapting your diet because of a medical condition, follow-up consultations help us monitor your progress and adjust the recommendations where necessary.
Are online dietitian consultations available in English?
Yes. Both initial and follow-up consultations are available online in English with Dóra Mária Iván-Papp. The consultation is conducted by video call, so you can receive personalised dietetic guidance without travelling to our Budapest clinic. Please note that body composition measurement is not available during online appointments.
